9 days of consecutive intensive coaching interspersed with cultural exploration.

Students will rehearse a programme of chamber music/string orchestra coached by an International faculty from San Francisco and England as well as Masterclasses. Students will also experience the richness of San Francisco (The City by the Bay)



The daily schedule will alternate between:

  • Chamber Music (coaching, rehearsals and workshops)
  • Orchestra Rehearsals & Sectionals
  • Chamber Music Master Classes: Alexander String Quartet

  • Informal sight-reading sessions
  • Sight-seeing and social events
  • Student-Faculty concerts

Whiz kids from the USA and UK and their exraordinary faculty present four very diverse concerts of Orchestra and Chamber Music in three historic San Francisco landmarks, and at SFSU School of Music and Dance.

After our first year in San Francisco, the Festival continued last year in Oxford, UK with performances in Christ Church Cathedral and Wesley Memorial Church, and is now returning to San Francisco this summer. Experience this extraordinary collaboration of talent guided by an eminent musical faculty who will perform string and piano masterpieces.

All coaches have particular expertise in chamber music and/or string orchestra as well as specific experience working with young people.




This experience is designed for exceptional young musicians who are ready to collaborate in creating an international community of inspired artistic excellence. With music as a transforming force, students will experience the additional vibrant, stimulating, dynamics resulting from diverse perspectives, cooperation and mentorship in music. In this musically rich environment, many will make life-long friends and all will be left with the memories of a powerful new experience.
 
   




The School of Music & Dance at SFSU…


is located in the "Lake Merced" district of San Francisco within walking distance of the Pacific Ocean. Complete with rehearsal facilities, music hall and residential hall, the School of Music and Dance at SFSU is our partner in San Francisco.

Age: 11 - 25 years
Level: High intermediate and advanced
Deposit: $100 on acceptance (non-refundable)

  • Requirements: Solo work with contrasting sections - lyrical & technical (10 minutes maximum). CD's/Tapes/DVD's are also accepted.

Financial aid: Limited need-based scholarships are available. Financial aid will be based on demonstrated financial need, merit and needs of course. (1st two pages of tax return must accompany request).

Guest Artist Laura Samuel from The Belcea Quartet (UK) works with a young string quartet of British and American Students during a Masterclass in Festival Oxford 2007.
